Bangkok, Thailand – Nokia today announced that International Gateway Company Limited (IGC) has selected Nokia's next-generation optical transport solution to modernize its existing DWDM network, which connects the East region to Cambodia and the South region to Malaysia. Powered by Nokia's latest generation Photonic Service Engine (PSE) chipset, the upgraded network will be capable of transmitting 400G per wavelength, enabling IGC to more effectively manage booming traffic demands while ensuring superior data center connectivity for its customers.

 

Upon deployment in Bangkok and in the East and South regions, Nokia's Data Center Interconnect (DCI) solution will enable IGC to cost-effectively meet requirements for a high-capacity, robust network as consumer data demand surges.

 

Pichit Satapattayanont, Chief Executive Officer at IGC, said: "Nokia's cost-effective and resilient DWDM solution, based on coherent technology, will help us delight our hyperscale customers by providing superior connectivity from the Cambodian border to the Malaysian border. Baghdad, Iraq – Nokia today announced a strategic partnership with Zain Iraq to upgrade the telecom operator's network in the south of Iraq. The three-year deal marks Nokia's first entry into the microwave (MW) business with Zain Iraq, enhancing network capacity and modernizing the infrastructure to support future growth and increased traffic demand.

 

The deployment will begin immediately, with a focus on optimizing network performance and ensuring scalability to accommodate future growth. Nokia's solutions will help Zain Iraq to expand the network capacity and enhance customer experience while paving the way for future innovations in the region. Zain Iraq has been experiencing increasing demand for its data services and the expansion is necessary to provide the best service to its customers. Nokia will implement its state-of-the-art microwave technology, including the latest E-band solutions, to upgrade Zain Iraq's MW backbone. This upgrade will increase network capacity and prepare the network for the anticipated data surge driven by rising customer usage.

 

This deal involves swapping out competitor equipment and introducing Nokia's high-capacity microwave solutions. Central to this deployment is the UBT-T XP version, which offers the highest transmit power in the market. This technology reduces antenna sizes and tower load, delivering significant capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX) savings.

New York – Nokia today announced the launch of a new sustainability calculator for private wireless networks for enterprises. This tool helps companies estimate the environmental and social benefits of using private wireless networks and the new Industry 4.0 applications they enable. Notable benefits include improved operations, reduced costs and carbon emissions, and fewer workplace accidents.

 

Nokia commissioned PwC UK to support the development of a Private Wireless Sustainability Calculator, based on Nokia's extensive experience in deploying private wireless networks for more than 760 industrial customers worldwide. Nokia's tool, initially created for mining, manufacturing and port industries, aids businesses in leveraging private wireless to reach their environmental and social objectives, catering to the growing demand from investors for transparency.

 

Digitalization is key to accelerating industry sustainability and enabling enterprises to achieve long-term growth. Private wireless networks provide high-performance connectivity for digitalization, enabling new applications such as drone inspections, digital twins, and real-time environmental monitoring. These applications, when combined with private networking and edge computing, improve operational efficiency and contribute to sustainability goals.

 

Industry 4.0 applications powered by private wireless networks offer significant improvements for businesses.

  • Reduced Greenhouse Gas Emissions: A GlobalData and Nokia report found 79% of surveyed enterprises saw a 10% or greater reduction in emissions after deploying private wireless solutions like drones, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), and digital twins.
  • Improved Worker Safety: Medium-sized chemical manufacturing plants utilizing private wireless networks can save approximately EUR 1.4 million in societal costs (assuming consistent production volumes) and witness an average 35% decrease, on average, in health and safety incidents. Societal costs refer to the economic and social burdens associated with accidents, injuries, and illnesses, including healthcare expenses, lost productivity, and the impact on families and communities. This is due to factors like remote machine control, which reduces worker exposure to hazardous environments.
  • Improved Efficiency: Autonomous trucks powered by private wireless networks results in a 7% reduction in fuel consumption and wear and tear. Additionally, operations became 10% more efficient, leading to reduced energy consumption and improved worker safety.

The Nokia Private Wireless Sustainability Calculator draws on PwC UK's expertise in measuring and valuing impacts, and its Total Impact Measurement and Management (TIMM) framework to develop the environmental and social impact methodologies for private wireless networks. TIMM is rooted in impact pathways, going one step further than most other methodologies to translate the costs and benefits to society in monetary terms.

 

The Nokia calculator uses data from multiple sources, including previous quantifications in other projects and network models to provide a comprehensive understanding of the private networks' impact. From there, the model's insights support users to identify opportunities to enhance business operations, including improving equipment lifecycles, reducing transportation downtime and fuel consumption, and improved worker health considerations. Through this process, the Nokia Private Wireless Sustainability Calculator offers enterprises vital findings and insights to improve their business – from improved operational efficiencies, worker health and safety, potential reductions in costs and environmental footprint.

Monrovia, Liberia – Nokia today announced a strategic partnership with iSAT Africa to enhance rural connectivity in Liberia, aiming to bridge the digital divide and bring reliable, affordable network access to underserved communities. This deployment will span over three years and cover approximately 200 sites across rural areas in Liberia.

 

The Nokia Rural Connect solution, including Nokia's industry-leading AirScale radio portfolio including Massive MIMO radios, remote radio heads, and base stations. iSAT Africa will also benefit from Nokia's MantaRay Network Management solutions which will deliver a unified, automated view of the network, enhancing both monitoring and management capabilities, addressing critical challenges such as limited coverage and the wide digital divide in rural regions.

Espoo, Finland – Nokia today announced that Brazilian broadband service provider Oi has deployed Corteca software suite to help manage its Wi-Fi CPE devices deployed in customers' homes. Dimensioned for millions of Wi-Fi devices, the Corteca deployment is the largest to date in Latin America region.

 

Fixed networks service providers are bringing multi-gigabit speeds to the home, but more than 40% of households are reporting issues with in-home connectivity. Operators remain challenged by today's in-home Wi-Fi solutions, due to complex installation processes, limited interoperability, inconsistent coverage and dead zones that lead to frustrated subscribers.

 

Nokia's Corteca addresses these challenges, providing better visibility into what's happening in the customer's premises along with tools that allow operators to remotely improve or optimize Wi-Fi performance. Operators can also leverage Corteca to proactively monitor in the cloud Wi-Fi networks and network-wide broadband device deployments.

 

Oi plans to use Nokia's Corteca Cloud to manage millions of Wi-Fi devices, including end-user tickets related to home Wi-Fi issues, eliminating the need to send technicians to sites. The provider will be able to offer new services through the Corteca Application marketplace. Additional Corteca Cloud features enable Oi to identify and locate stolen ONTs.

Espoo, Finland – Nokia today announces the availability of its AI era, Event-Driven Automation (EDA) platform. Nokia EDA raises the bar on data center network operations with a modern approach that builds on Kubernetes to bring highly reliable, simplified, and adaptable lifecycle management to data center networks. Aimed at driving human error in network operations to zero, Nokia's new platform reduces network disruptions and application downtime while also decreasing operational effort up to 40%.

 

Ongoing digital transformation and the rise of AI applications, coupled with data center workforce shortages and skills gaps, are driving webscalers, enterprises, and service providers to scale and adapt their data center infrastructures to meet exponential demand and evolving workload requirements. As more critical workloads move to the cloud, interruptions in cloud services can have significant economic, safety and social implications. Increasing automation in cloud and networking operations is essential to respond to demand while reducing service disruptions.

 

Despite the benefits of network automation, a study by Enterprise Management Associates shows that most organizations have automated less than half of their data center network management tasks. Barriers to adopting automation include a lack of scalable, open, multi-vendor solutions; legacy systems and complexity requiring skilled resources; and a lack of trust in fully automated systems delivering the right outcomes.

 

Nokia's new infrastructure automation platform is designed to overcome these barriers while providing a new path to addressing key challenges in today's data center network environment.

 

The risk of human error and associated network downtime is mitigated through EDA's integrated digital twin, pre- and post-deployment checkpoints, highly responsive multi-dimensional observability, and a robust CI/CD methodology with revision control. Simplicity in operations is enabled through intent-based declarative automation, GenAI assistance and a low-code/no-code approach to building customized dashboards. EDA easily integrates into multi-vendor, multi-domain environments with support for a wide range of IT service management systems, event notification systems, and cloud management platforms.

 

As a modern software platform, EDA builds on Kubernetes, a cloud automation and orchestration environment with millions of users worldwide, for its cloud-based microservices architecture. The platform adopts Kubernetes constructs to bring an intent-based, event-driven, and declarative approach to network automation, and complements it with network-wide transactions. Further, through leveraging Kubernetes resource model, APIs and toolchain, EDA enables network resources to be easily consumed in the same fashion as other data center applications.

 

EDA is available through on-prem and cloud-based "as-a-service" subscription models. The EDA app store, a cloud-inspired approach, allows operators to easily customize their automation environment.

Espoo, Finland – Nokia today announced it has been selected by CoreWeave, the AI Hyperscaler™, to deploy its IP routing and optical transport portfolios globally as part of an extensive backbone build-out, with immediate roll-out across its datacenters in the U.S. and Europe. The Nokia solution provides super-fast, reliable performance at scale, while driving 30%+ more traffic within the same energy envelope – features fundamental to the stringent and skyrocketing data demands of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) workloads.

 

CoreWeave powers the most compute-intensive and complex workloads and AI-centered applications. This requires a networking backbone that provides super-fast and reliable customer access to CoreWeave's services as well as critical network connectivity to support CoreWeave's AI cloud infrastructure. As requirements for generative AI, ML, graphics and rendering (VFX) continue to grow, the Nokia IP and Optical portfolios, along with high-performance FP5 IP routing silicon, will provide the high programmability and customization that allow the hyperscaler to evolve with changing traffic behaviors and growth.

CoreWeave's IP backbone is being built with the FP5-based Nokia 7750 Service Router (SR), which provides massive routing scale, 800Gb/s speeds, and strong Ethernet VPN (EVPN) support, and Nokia's ultra-reliable, secure, high-performance Service Router Operating System (SROS). Optical transport and datacenter interconnection across the WAN will leverage the Nokia 1830 Photonic Service Interconnect (PSI) solution. The Nokia Network Services Platform (NSP) will automate network functions and optimize resource allocation.

Espoo, Finland – Nokia and NL-ix today announced the deployment of Nokia Deepfield Defender across NL-ix's network, making it the biggest anti-DDoS solution for an internet exchange point (IXP) environment rolled out across Europe to better protect customers and operations by stopping DDoS attacks in seconds.

 

Utilized in the NL-ix network, Nokia Deepfield Defender detects DDoS using AI-driven big data analytics and drives mitigation directly on the Nokia FP5-based routers, which NL-ix is deploying across their entire network. Nokia's advanced, high-performance DDoS security solution detects all types of DDoS quickly and accurately and drives agile, network-based mitigation on the existing Nokia routers, with minimal or no impact on customer traffic. The solution ensures advanced DDoS security to stay ahead of the latest generation of threats, scaling protection and adding security-enhanced service offerings to enterprises, especially those operating in critical industry segments.

 

The introduction of Deepfield Defender in NL-ix's network represents a milestone in the evolution of Nokia's security capabilities for webscale and IXP companies, making it a model to be replicated in the future.
