HERE powering maps for Baidu outside of China

Berlin, Germany - HERE, a leader in navigation, mapping and location experiences, today announced that it has teamed up with Baidu, the leading Chinese language Internet search provider, to power its new desktop and mobile map services outside of China.

Baidu's location services enable the fast growing number of Chinese globetrotters to plan their trips at home ahead of time and find their way on the go.

HERE is the only dedicated location company with global reach in the market today. It has the best map in the world, covering nearly 200 countries and including turn-by-turn navigation for 118 countries. HERE makes around 2.7 million changes to its map every day resulting from advanced collection vehicle data and its highly-trained team of cartographers, as well as information gathered from tens of thousands of other sources.

"Every day, millions of people count on HERE to explore the world and discover new places whether at home or on the go," said Bruno Bourguet, SVP and Head of Sales, HERE. "Together with Baidu, a new customer for us, we want to help the growing number of Chinese tourists get the most from their travels."

Both the desktop version of Baidu Maps as well as the mobile apps for Android and iOS currently extend their territory coverage beyond Mainland China to Taiwan first, with other countries or territories to follow at a later stage.

Nokia Säätiön tunnustuspalkinto esineiden Internetin kehittäjälle Zach Shelbylle

NOKIA

"Esineiden Internet on tämän vuosikymmenen merkittävin murros Internetin kehityksessä. Haluamme tukea ja edistää tätä teknologiamurrosta myöntämällä tämän vuoden tunnustuspalkinnon henkilölle, jonka osuus esineiden Internetin kehittäjänä on merkittävä", sanoo Nokia Säätiön hallituksen puheenjohtaja Timo Ali-Vehmas.

Nokia Säätiö jakaa apurahoja vuonna 2014 yhteensä lähes 560 000 euroa.

Aikaisemmin tänä vuonna perustetun Jorma Ollilan erikoisrahaston ensimmäiset monivuotiset tutkijatohtorivaiheen (post doc) kansainvälistymiseen suunnatut apurahat myönnettiin seuraaville henkilöille:

  • Wei Lu projektinaan "Wireless communication inspired random matrix theory in the big data era"
  • Pyry Kivisaari projektinaan "Diffusion-driven near-surface nanophotonic devices for efficient energy conversion"
  • Mikko Kytö projektinaan "Augmented Reality: An Interface for Internet of Things"
  • Sergey Andreev projektinaan "Performance Limits of Network- Assisted D2D Connectivity: Empowering 5G-grade IoT Solutions"

"Nimikkoapurahani on osoitettu nimenomaan tutkijoiden kansainvälistymisen tukemiseen.

HERE launches Predictive Traffic

NOKIA

HERE launches Predictive Traffic

Charlotte, N.C. - HERE, a leader in navigation, mapping and location experiences, today launched Predictive Traffic, a new traffic forecasting product that can anticipate future traffic conditions in real-time.

HERE Predictive Traffic considers over 100 different traffic behavior profiles per road segment to provide up to the minute traffic forecasts as far as 12 hours into the future. HERE devised a proprietary mechanism that selects the appropriate profile from this exhaustive collection, and combines it with real-time conditions to provide travelers with the best travel time estimates for their destination. Drivers using Predictive Traffic saw estimated arrival times that were up to 20% more accurate for journeys over 30 minutes in length.

Automakers, transportation agencies and other companies can build applications that seamlessly integrate HERE predictive traffic data across all screens. Pre-planned trips could be synced to the cloud, for example, allowing for automatic integration with the car and real-time notifications via connected devices. Dynamic message signs on highways could broadcast better travel times to the public.

Predictive Traffic demonstrates how HERE is using its expertise in predictive analytics and cloud computing to create solutions for connected cars today, and lay the foundation for autonomous vehicles tomorrow. The product will initially be available to OEMs in the U.S., Canada and Germany.

HERE has the most comprehensive traffic portfolio in the industry. In addition to Predictive Traffic, HERE Real-time Traffic is available in 43 countries and historical traffic data are available in 81 countries. HERE also collects more than 70 billion probe points per month and has collected more than 1.3 trillion historical probe points over the past decade.

"With HERE Predictive Traffic, businesses and ultimately consumers will benefit from having the most accurate, real-time traffic forecasts at their fingertips," says Ogi Redzic, Senior Vice President, Connected Driving HERE. "With Predictive Traffic, drivers will learn of delays in advance and be able to plan around them. The most important thing is that people spend less time in traffic."

HERE will be demonstrating its Predictive Traffic product at the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) annual meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina starting today.

Nokia Announces N1 Android Tablet

NOKIA

Nokia Announces N1 Android Tablet

Simplicity and design at the heart of Nokia's first brand-licensed product

Espoo, Finland - Nokia today announced the N1, the first Nokia-branded AndroidTM tablet. The N1 offers the innovative, predictive Nokia Z Launcher interface, and a carefully crafted industrial design by Nokia with a focus on simplicity. The N1 will be brought to market in Q1 2015 through a brand-licensing agreement with an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partner responsible for manufacturing, distribution and sales.

"We are pleased to bring the Nokia brand back into consumers' hands with the N1 Android tablet, and to help make sophisticated technologies simple," said Sebastian Nyström, Head of Products at Nokia Technologies, who announced the N1 at the Slush technology conference in Helsinki. "The N1 has a delightfully intuitive interface and an industrial design to match it. This is a great product for Nokia fans and everyone who has not found the right Android tablet yet."

Consumers use and manage a large set of applications in their digital lives. The N1 makes that easy with the Z Launcher, which allows users to scribble a letter or two to find their content quickly. Over time the Z Launcher learns what applications are in use, and predicts and highlights the applications consumers are expected to want based on time of day and location.

The industrial design of the N1 is deliberately developed to match the elegant simplicity of the interface. It has a unique one-piece aluminum design with a soft finish in both Lava Grey and Natural Aluminum colors that make it stand out from other tablets. The 7.9" laminated display sits in a 6.9mm thin and light design that makes the device comfortable to hold even with one hand. A 2.4Ghz Intel© AtomTM quad-core processor provides great performance for the Android Lollipop operating system on the N1.

The N1 is planned to be available for purchase in China in Q1 2015 for an estimated USD 249 before taxes, with the anticipation of expanding sales to other markets.

In addition to the Nokia brand, Nokia is licensing the industrial design, Z Launcher software layer and IP on a running royalty basis to the OEM partner. The OEM partner is responsible for full business execution, from engineering and sales to customer care, including liabilities and warranty costs, inbound IP and software licensing and contractual agreements with 3rd parties.

The N1's industrial design and Z Launcher application originate within the Nokia Technologies business, which is focused on strengthening Nokia's industry-leading innovation portfolio through patent, technology and brand licensing.

London, UK - Today, at its Capital Markets Day event, Nokia outlined its company vision and strategic priorities for its three businesses, set key 2015 and long-term financial targets for the company and detailed the operational priorities it expects will help create sustainable value for the long term.

"As said before, recommencing an ordinary dividend is one of our main priorities, and we expect to continue to repurchase shares as part of our capital structure optimization program," Ihamuotila said.

Given Nokia's pioneering role in connecting people and its strong technology capabilities, the company's vision is to expand the human possibilities of the connected world. Each of Nokia's three businesses is well-placed to contribute to reaching this vision.

To tap the opportunities ahead and leverage its strong assets, Nokia will focus its approach to value creation on four areas:

- Disciplined business portfolio management and capital allocation;

- Clear business-specific strategies;

- Operational excellence; and

- A high-performance culture and strong values.

Looking at market dynamics, the competitive environment and the challenges that operators are facing, Nokia Networks' strategy is to build on its current momentum while transforming to serve the operator of the future. The target is to grow slightly faster than the market over the long-term, create best-in-class, high quality products and services, and deliver on profitability goals.

The strategy for HERE is to leverage the location cloud and superior content in segments where Nokia can differentiate and capture value. The target is to win in automotive, grow in the enterprise segment and leverage the unique assets that HERE has with leading Internet players, while improving profitability through increased efficiency.

Nokia Technologies' strategy builds on its world-leading patent portfolio. It will focus on patent, technology, and brand licensing as well as investment in products and services incubation based on Nokia's innovation.

Nokia's operational approach will help it execute its strategies. There will be a clear focus on operational excellence with the Nokia Business System (NBS), which provides a shared set of operating practices to create value across the three businesses. NBS includes three elements: investment optimization, performance management and talent management. Nokia also continues to target further improvement in its operations going forward, with a clear focus on efficiencies through automation and disciplined processes.

In addition to operational excellence, we are introducing a common, high-performance culture across the company. This is a long term project based on Nokia's new values, and it will be implemented with discipline and rigor.

NOKIA

Rooli, jossa voimme laajentaa teknologian tarjoamia mahdollisuuksia ihmisille", sanoi Nokian toimitusjohtaja Rajeev Suri.

"Tänään järjestämämme sijoittajatapaaminen seurasi vuosineljännestä, jonka aikana jokainen kolmesta liiketoiminnastamme kasvoi. Vuosineljännes osoitti yhtiömme potentiaalin sen alkaessa suoriutua hyvin", Suri sanoi.

Nokian talous- ja rahoitusjohtaja Timo Ihamuotila lisäsi: "Nokia rakentuu vankalle pohjalle. Meillä on vahva tase ja pääomarakenteen optimointiohjelmamme etenee selvästi."

"Kuten olemme aiemmin kertoneet, osinkojen maksun uudelleenaloittaminen on yksi keskeisistä prioriteeteistamme, ja oletamme jatkavamme omien osakkeiden takaisinostoja osana pääomarakenteen optimointiohjelmaamme", Ihamuotila sanoi.

Huomioiden Nokian edelläkävijän roolin ihmisten yhdistämisessä sekä sen vahvat teknologiset kyvyt yhtiön visio keskittyy laajentamaan verkkoon yhteydessä olevan maailman tarjoamia mahdollisuuksia ihmisille. Jokaisella Nokian kolmesta liiketoiminnasta on hyvä mahdollisuus edistää tämän vision saavuttamista.

Hyödyntääkseen tulevaisuuden mahdollisuuksia ja yhtiön vahvuuksia Nokia keskittyy lähestymistavallaan luomaan arvoa neljällä osa-alueella:

-       Harkittu liiketoimintaportfolion kehittäminen ja pääoman jakaminen;

-       Selkeät liiketoimintakohtaiset strategiat;

Tämän lisäksi HERE-liiketoiminnan tavoitteena on parantaa samalla kannattavuutta lisääntyneen tehokkuuden myötä.

- Nokian tavoitteena on saavuttaa Nokia Networks -liiketoiminnassa hieman markkinaa nopeampi liikevaihdon kasvu pitkällä aikavälillä.

- Nokian tavoitteena on kirjata verokulut noin 25 prosentin pitkän aikavälin efektiivisellä verokannalla konsernin tuloslaskelmassa.

- Nokia arvioi Nokia Networksin liikevaihdon koko vuonna 2015 kasvavan edelliseen vuoteen verrattuna.

- Nokia arvioi Nokia Networksin ei-IFRS-liikevoittoprosentin koko vuonna 2015 olevan Nokia Networksin uuden, pitkän aikavälin ei-IFRS-liikevoittoprosentin vaihteluvälin 8-11 mukainen.

- Nokian näkymät Nokia Networksin liikevaihtoa ja ei-IFRS-liikevoittoprosenttia koskien perustuvat arvioihin useista eri tekijöistä, joihin kuuluvat:

- Toimialan kilpailudynamiikka;
- Tuotevalikoiman painottuminen ja alueellinen jakauma;
- Merkittävien verkkojen rakennushankkeiden ajoittuminen; ja
- Arvioitu jatkuva toimintojen tehostuminen.

- Nokia arvioi HERE-liiketoiminnan liikevaihdon koko vuonna 2015 kasvavan edelliseen vuoteen verrattuna.

- Nokia arvioi HERE-liiketoiminnan ei-IFRS-liikevoittoprosentin koko vuonna 2015 olevan 5-10.

- Nokia arvioi Nokia Technologies -liiketoiminnan liikevaihdon koko vuonna 2015 kasvavan edelliseen vuoteen verrattuna, lukuun ottamatta mahdollisia summia liittyen odotettuun Nokian ja Samsungin välisen välimiesmenettelyn ratkaisuun.

- Nokia arvioi yhtymän yhteisten toimintojen ei-IFRS-toimintakulujen olevan noin 120 miljoonaa euroa vuonna 2015.

HERE map services and content bundled with SAP HANA® to accelerate geo-enablement of applications

NOKIA

HERE map services and content bundled with SAP HANA® to accelerate geo-enablement of applications

Berlin, Germany - HERE, a Nokia company, today announced that it has signed an original equipment manufacturing (OEM) agreement with SAP. As part of the agreement, SAP plans to bundle base maps and content from HERE into the SAP HANA® platform. SAP HANA customers will be able to access this geo-content to develop and deploy geo-spatial applications leveraging the native in-memory, spatial-processing capabilities of SAP HANA.

As a leader in mapping and location experiences, HERE brings an important dimension to business intelligence and big-data analytics. Its capabilities enable organizations to geo-reference data points and visualize them on a map to obtain new insights, identify trends and explain root causes. Location-enabled analytics thus help businesses track and manage the flow of goods, information or money to help plan and prioritize future efforts accordingly.

"Digital maps are playing an increasingly important role across industries," said Jacques-Etienne Grandjean, vice president EMEA, Enterprise Sales, HERE. "Giving businesses the insight they need to respond to fast-changing circumstances, location services have become crucial for enhancing business analytics and enterprise applications. With the integration of maps provided by our HERE Platform bundled with SAP HANA, we can help businesses make better decisions faster, more transparently and cost-efficiently."

SAP HANA is a modern, in-memory platform that helps transform organizations that seek agility and simplicity. SAP intends to offer HERE content and map services with the latest release of SAP HANA, service pack 9 (SPS09), planned to be available later this month. Existing SAP customers will be able to download the solution via the SAP Service Marketplace community site.

"We anticipate that the geo-content and services provided by the HERE Platform, paired with the in-memory and spatial-processing capabilities of SAP HANA, will enable customers to simplify and accelerate the geo-enablement of applications," said Hinnerk Gildhoff, development manager, responsible for spatial development, SAP HANA, SAP.
