HERE connects the car to the cloud - introducing the most complete Connected Driving offer on the market

HERE connects the car to the cloud - introducing the most complete Connected Driving offer on the market

Espoo, Finland - HERE, a Nokia business, today announced a complete Connected Driving offer, the only end-to-end driving solution on the market today, which will help car makers and in-vehicle technology suppliers connect the car and the driver to the cloud.

The offering includes HERE Auto, HERE Auto Cloud, and HERE Auto Companion. In addition, HERE has radically improved its Traffic product, HERE Traffic, by building a new system to process data even faster and more accurately than before. The HERE Connected Driving offering will be demonstrated at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany starting on September 10.

Technology is rapidly transforming driving, with connectivity bringing the outside world to the car and the sensor revolution creating new possibilities for the automobile industry. People today demand that cars become integrated into their ecosystem of connected devices with the same level of innovation they see in their personal devices.

HERE Connected Driving offers a full range of automotive products and services that builds on our high-quality and fresh map to go beyond navigation. The customizable offering is a fully flexible framework that allows automakers to differentiate the driving experience. It will help them solve the problems that drivers face every day such as synching routes and other personal information across their car and devices and finding the right parking spot or closest gas station.

- HERE Auto is the first embedded in-car navigation experience that delivers the right map at the right moment with and without a data connection. Drivers can get turn by turn voice guided navigation in 95 countries and 2D, 3D and satellite map views including street level imagery. In the future, car makers will be able to easily extend the HERE Auto experience using a software development kit (SDK) to create entertainment and other applications, such as in the areas of music and social networking. HERE Auto is already integrated in Continental's next generation Open Infotainment Platform. HERE is also working with partners such as Magneti Marelli and others to bring HERE Auto to the market in the coming months.

- HERE Auto Cloud provides drivers with always-on access to several dynamic services such as real-time traffic updates, helping drivers avoid congested areas, road closures or blockages that occur en route. Drivers can also get recommendations on places to eat, parking spots, information on where to charge an electric vehicle or where to find the most inexpensive fuel.

- HERE Auto Companion, a customizable mobile and web application, keeps drivers connected outside of the car allowing them to synchronize their favorite places and routes across their devices so that they won't need to re-enter their route when they get in the driver's seat. Car makers can tap assets from the existing HERE suite such as walking navigation, public transit routes and even indoor venue maps to build custom mobile applications. Drivers could use the app to remotely find their car with their device using LiveSight augmented reality technology and check the car's vital stats such as fuel levels and tire pressure.

- HERE Traffic has been radically improved by "Halo," our new engine that processes data quickly and accurately. Every month we're collecting ever greater numbers of high-quality data, such as probe points and sensor information to deliver real-time information such as weather, traffic congestion, road construction and other factors that affect a drive. With our new Traffic product drivers get improved travel time estimates, so they can better plan their routes and quickly re-route on the go.

"By 2016, the majority of consumers in mature markets will consider in-vehicle web-based data access a key criterion in their automotive purchase," said Thilo Koslowski, VP of Automotive at Gartner. "Successful connected vehicle solutions will add value to the connected driver's digital lifestyle and enable integrated cross-device experiences relevant for people everyday."

Nokia 515 delivers premium design with high performance

Nokia 515 delivers premium design with high performance

Offers high performance, smarter imaging and uncompromising quality

Moscow, Russia - Nokia today unveiled the Nokia 515, a premium mobile phone made with style-conscious people in mind. Wrapped in lightweight aluminium, the device combines the best of Nokia - contemporary design, high quality materials and top performance. The Nokia 515 is available in single and Easy Swap Dual-SIM variants.

Nokia 515The Nokia 515 reflects Nokia's approach to design, focused on simplicity, purity and craft. It features scratch resistant Gorilla® Glass 2, gently curved for a beautiful finish, and a classic highly polished camera bezel. Available in black or white, the phone's elegant profile and aluminium body is perfect for style minimalists. At only 11 mm thick, the Nokia 515 will slide beautifully into the smallest pocket or bag.

"When designing the Nokia 515 we set out to create a beautifully designed phone that people will be proud to own," said Peter Griffith, Head of Mobile Phones Industrial Design at Nokia. "We believe we've achieved that - the Nokia 515 is designed for people who prefer classic design, crafted to perfection and with the functionality they need for everyday use. We have created something that performs stunningly, without compromise."

Capture and share great images every time

The Nokia 515 ensures people will never miss a photo-worthy moment. With smarter imaging features and a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, the smart camera offers a choice of image capture, editing and sharing options, including:

- Panorama - for wide-angle shots, including group photos and landscapes.
- Sequential shots - capture up to five frames in a row with just one click, then choose the best of the series.
- Self-portrait - for perfectly-centred self-portraits, even without a front-facing camera. The built-in voice prompt guides people to ensure they are in the frame before taking the shot.

Sharing photos with friends and family is quick and easy with the ability to share straight from the gallery to social networks. People can also share photos and other content using Nokia's exclusive Slam, which comes built into the Nokia 515 and works by transferring content such as images or contact cards to an adjacent Bluetooth-enabled phone in just a few simple clicks, without the need to pair devices.

Faster, better performance for work and play

The Nokia 515 delivers a fast, 3.5G HSDPA Internet experience. It comes with a standby time of up to 38 days in the single SIM version, making the phone perfect for balancing work and play. With optimised HSDPA internet built-in and data cloud compression, mobile browsing is made up to 90 percent more efficient, helping people get more from their data plan. Popular apps like Facebook, Twitter and Nimbuzz are preloaded on the phone, while Mail for Exchange allows people to check work email and sync their calendars and contacts on-the-go. It can also be connected to a PC or laptop and used as a modem via a USB cable.

The new phone also comes with HD voice*, which means people can enjoy crystal clear audio, even in noisy environments. Plus, with the pre-installed Transfer app, they can sync contacts directly from a Lumia, other Windows Phone 8 smartphone or Android device, transforming the Nokia 515 into the ideal secondary or companion device for on the go. For those who prefer to use a separate phone for voice calls, the Nokia 515 uses the same micro SIM card as typical smartphones, making it a great voice companion device.

"Feature phones still make up one half of global handset sales," said Simon Baker, Program Manager, Mobile Handsets CEMA at IDC. "There is room in the market for a range of feature phone models. Nokia is one of the few handset manufacturers continuing to pursue the area: one of its latest offerings, the new Nokia 515 offers a stylish and robust exterior and features fast connectivity, high quality imaging and access to popular applications. It's a great example of a phone which will serve an audience which does not always need the complexity that a smartphone may bring, or which may prefer to do its browsing and emailing on a larger tablet device and will retain a handy mobile phone for straightforward calls and for texting."

The Nokia 515 starts to roll out globally in September, starting in Russia, Germany, Switzerland and Poland. It will have a suggested retail price of 149 USD / 115 EUR before taxes and subsidies.

HERE delivers precise indoor location content to Qualcomm

HERE delivers precise indoor location content to Qualcomm

Qualcomm IZat employs HERE Venue Maps to improve indoor positioning for location-based apps

Espoo, Finland - HERE, a Nokia business, today announced that it will make available its indoor Venue Maps to Qualcomm Atheros, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated. Leveraging indoor map data from HERE that is tightly coupled to the core indoor positioning engine will help Qualcomm IZat(TM) location technologies deliver more precise positioning (within 3-5 meters) to mobile devices inside buildings. Improving the overall indoor location experience for consumers, this combination is expected to accelerate the development and use of compelling location-based experiences as well as promotions in shopping malls, transportation hubs and entertainment venues around the globe.

"In our quest to deliver location awareness everywhere, Qualcomm Atheros is propagating indoor location capabilities to ensure the best possible experiences in a wide variety of places," said Cormac Conroy, vice president of the mobile, computing and location business unit at Qualcomm Atheros. "Our collaboration with HERE complements the capabilities of our IZat location platform to deliver the exceptional accuracy that is required for businesses and app developers looking for ways to reach mobile consumers and create additional revenue opportunities from location-based services."

To map buildings, HERE mapmakers visit venues from airports to zoos to sports complexes, museums and other facilities around the world to ensure map data is precise and no detail is forgotten. They collect building floor plans and then validate against the real world which includes double-checking the names of points of interest and ensuring that rich features such as ATM machines, restrooms and escalators are included.

"Indoor spaces are among the new frontiers in mapping and HERE is uniquely positioned to bring its global leadership in outdoor mapping to inside venues," said Cliff Fox, senior vice president of Location Content at HERE. "Not only have we been the first to map some of the most recognized buildings in the world, but we also offer the world's broadest coverage of indoor spaces with currently more than 9,000 venues consisting of 50,000 unique buildings mapped in 69 countries. With our continuously expanding reach in coverage and focus on efforts to improve accuracy, we can support Qualcomm Atheros in its quest to provide access to accurate location information and services to consumers as they move about venues."

Venue Maps complement Qualcomm Atheros' end-to-end IZat indoor positioning capabilities to deliver always-on location awareness to mobile devices in more places. IZat is comprised of Qualcomm Atheros' broad technology portfolio, including cellular, global navigation satellite system (GNSS), Wi-Fi, sensor and cloud-based assistance solutions, as well as its widely deployed location core, already found in more than one billion devices on mobile networks worldwide.
