Espoo, Finland – Nokia today announced new added value features and digital automation enablers for its Nokia Digital Automation Cloud (DAC) private wireless networking platform.

 

Enhancing Nokia DAC's industry-leading private 4.9G/LTE and 5G connectivity, the new features offer an expanded portfolio of Nokia apps as well as a growing ecosystem of IoT modules and industry connectors essential to Industry 4.0 implementation.

 

Enabled by its cloud-native application framework, the Nokia DAC application catalog provides a 'click and deploy' approach to software installation, deployment and application lifecycle management.

 

The catalog features a range of offerings that include Nokia High Accuracy Positioning, Nokia SpaceTime scene analytics, newly launched Nokia DAC team comms and VoIP, as well as a suite of industrial connectors. In addition, the catalog contains Microsoft Azure IoT Edge services enabling deployment of Microsoft Azure IoT Edge Modules such as Modbus.

Nokia DAC team comms and DAC VoIP now offer customers voice and video solutions for reliable and secure one-to-one and one-to-many campus-wide communication. Delivered over the platform's scalable edge cloud, these newly available on-premise applications are ideal for asset-intensive locations of all sizes such as ports, mines and factories.

 

Further, a suite of new Nokia DAC industrial connectors enables customers to use the platform to seamlessly handle machine communication protocols such as PROFINET, EtherCAT and Modbus. This allows customers to integrate private wireless and edge computing with existing and legacy systems, machines and infrastructure.

 

The Microsoft Azure IoT plug-in in the Nokia DAC catalog follows a joint Microsoft and Nokia announcement to accelerate digital transformation and Industry 4.0. Microsoft Azure IoT services enable customers to address interconnected scenarios across multiple industries that include manufacturing, logistics, utilities, smart cities and transportation.

Abuja, Nigeria – Nokia today announced that it will supply Nigerian mobile operator, Tizeti with its Fastmile and Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology enabling them to provide superior internet services to over one million subscribers in Port Harcourt, Edo and Ogun in Nigeria. Tizeti will deploy Nokia's AirScale Base Station TDD-LTE and Fastmile Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) gateways to deliver premium internet and Virtual Private Network (VPN) services to residences as well as Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). The solution will also enable Tizeti to deliver a more robust, high-speed internet service to subscribers and the flexibility to seamlessly evolve to 5G Fixed Wireless Access when needed.

 

Nokia's FWA solution enables Tizeti to fast-track broadband access and provide a best-in-class broadband experience to its subscribers. Nokia's AirScale Base Stations ensure high-quality connectivity and coverage and enables Tizeti to evolve the network in line with customer demand. Nokia's Fastmile gateways connect wirelessly to the existing network to create a fast broadband connection and enhanced Wi-Fi experience in the home. The Nokia Network Services Platform will help Tizeti to simplify operations and quickly respond to changing market demands.

Espoo, Finland – Nokia today has launched its upgraded cognitive Self-Organizing Network software to provide communication service providers with the promise of zero-touch network automation for 5G and increased operational efficiencies.

Nokia cognitive SON removes the traditional operator console and replaces it with an objective driven dashboard, enabling real-time solution deployments and increased productivity. This dashboard allows operations stakeholders – from chief experience officers to market engineers – to easily decipher how their objectives are realized by SON.

In a proof of concept exercise with a leading North American operator, Nokia cognitive SON's zero-touch automation increased operational efficiency by 80 percent.

Driven by Machine Learning (ML) concepts such as clustering, classification and reinforcement learning, Nokia cognitive SON orchestrates standard and adapted modules to automatically detect, categorize and solve network problems and leverage insights to further hone the solution itself – a key differentiator from competitor solutions. This results in a significant reduction of manual work and rigorous technical analysis that  network operators would otherwise need to do.

Additionally, by overseeing the workflow from end-to-end and incorporating objectives into SON for the first time, Nokia cognitive SON optimizes activities with an operator's end goals.

Through cognitive functionalities, the software upgrades automatically without the need for the operator to manually trigger the request, and offers programmability with a Software Development Kit and open APIs to further increase speed and flexibility.

Nokia cognitive SON has a vendor-agnostic network slice management function to automate the radio slice life cycle and resource optimization. Leveraging ML and automation capabilities, Nokia cognitive SON will be able to optimize each slice separately to ensure better network availability and quality.

Stéphane Téral, Chief Analyst of LightCounting Market Research, said: "This launch moves to fulfill Nokia's vision of accomplishing "true" network self-configuration, self-organization, and self-healing. Nokia cognitive SON understands the state of a network and is fully equipped, through machine learning and automation, to quickly address issues and to make the necessary changes with minimal human interaction. Such capabilities are needed now with the complexity of 5G networks"

DISH chooses Nokia cloud-native, 5G standalone Core software to build U.S. 5G network with scale, performance, and efficiency

Espoo, Finland – Nokia today announced that DISH Network has chosen Nokia's cloud-native, standalone Core software products to help it build the most advanced, disruptive, fully-automated, cloud-native 5G network in the U.S. with high-level scale, performance, and efficiency.

The deal follows months of joint testing as Nokia and DISH proved their respective "any cloud" capabilities in multiple cloud environments, along with Nokia's ability to integrate and deliver a fully cloud-native, containerized, end-to-end solution.

The agreement includes subscriber data management, device management, packet core, voice and data core, as well as integration services. Nokia will also deliver additional cloud-native products that will provide 4G, 5G standalone and Voice over Wi-Fi access to core network functions.

These products will provide DISH the speed, agility, intelligence, and security to deliver new 5G-era services, while cost-effectively managing its network with near zero-touch automation and adherence to Service Level Agreements.

Nokia leads the market in core network deployments, with 25 of the top 40 communication service providers relying on Nokia Core network products.

Marc Rouanne, DISH Chief Network Officer, said: "This is an important step in bringing to life DISH's plans to deliver the first open, agile, virtualized 5G network in the U.S. Nokia's new release is cloud-native, standalone and ready for full automation, providing DISH the software capabilities required to deliver thousands of network slices with low latency and SLA on demand."

Manila, Philippines – Converge ICT, one of the leading Internet and digital services providers in the Philippines, will bring ultra-broadband services to the island of Mindanao by deploying Nokia's fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) solution. With this deployment, Converge ICT will be expanding its broadband network coverage to the region by connecting more than 300,000 homes and businesses to ultra-fast, affordable and reliable broadband services over the next three years.

 

Nokia's fiber solution allows Converge ICT to deliver a differentiated broadband service to customers and will play a key role in its ability to seamlessly evolve its network over time. The deployment uses fiber access nodes from the Nokia Lightspan FX series, which provides Converge ICT with the flexibility to use their fiber more efficiently and evolve to next generation technologies such as XGS-PON, 25G PON, next-generation PON line cards and Software Defined Access Network (SDAN), through a software upgrade.

 

This deployment is pivotal towards laying the foundation for the Philippines' digital future as it aims to provide access to affordable broadband in one of the far-flung regions of the Philippines. The availability of fiber-based Internet connectivity in Mindanao will create new opportunities for the island to grow economically while strengthening the digital backbone for industries and government-run facilities.

Espoo, Finland – Nokia today announced that it is set to support Telefónica in its efforts to deploy 5G services to 75 percent of the Spanish population by the end of the year. The move will mean that Nokia will continue its long-standing partnership with Telefónica as the only vendor to supply 5G radio technology to all of its 5G operations across Europe.

 

Nokia has supported Telefónica's 5G development strategy since 2018 as part of the 'Technological Cities' project in the historical city of Segovia in central Spain. The project trialed the capabilities of 5G across a range of different use cases in urban areas to enable local citizens and companies to understand the benefits of new 5G-based digital services. In particular, the project looked at the benefits of enhanced data speeds with higher capacity and lower latency.

 

Nokia currently supplies its flexible AirScale Radio Access portfolio, which delivers ultra-fast data speeds, connectivity and ultra-low latency, and gives Telefónica the flexibility to respond to increasing demand. Nokia is also providing its expertise with rollout and support services. Nokian saaman ilmoituksen mukaan Solidium Oy:n Nokia-omistusten määrä oli 3.9.2020 yhteensä 283 000 000 osaketta, joka vastaa noin 5,01 %:a Nokian koko osake- ja äänimäärästä. Nokian osakkeiden kokonaismäärä on 5 653 886 159 kappaletta ja jokainen osake tuottaa yhden äänen.
