Nokia AIMS boosts warehouse efficiency with industry-first, true automated inventory counting capability

Press Release

Nokia AIMS boosts warehouse efficiency with industry-first, true automated inventory counting capability

  • New, true inventory counting service is an add-on to AIMS' autonomous drone service.
  • Enables warehouses to automate inventory counting with higher accuracy and increased efficiency than manual counting.
  • AIMS boosts worker safety, productivity and reassignment from cycle counting to higher-value tasks.

5 August 2024

Murray Hill, New Jersey – Nokia today announced the launch of the industry-first, true inventory counting capability for Nokia Autonomous Inventory Monitoring Service (AIMS), enabling warehouse operators to utilize autonomous drones to individually count items, such as eaches, cases or cartons, in any racked inventory location accurately and efficiently.

Warehouse shrinkage can account for 3-5% of a company's revenue and 25% of shrinkage is due to administrative errors1. This combined with continued pressure to fulfill orders rapidly has pushed warehouse operators to a tipping point of futureproofing and automating operations to gain a business edge.

The new inventory counting capability adds to Nokia AIMS' current features of finding misplaced and lost inventory, as well as empty bin detection. If a human worker can count inventory from the aisle, the Nokia AIMS drone can count it too. Identified inventory counts are then compared with warehouses' existing WMS or ERP systems to identify any quantity mismatches.

Whereas typical cycle counts use the ABC method, where inventory is counted based on varying frequency, Nokia AIMS efficiently checks every location much more frequently, to ensure customers get a more accurate, reliable and complete picture of their inventory.

Nokia AIMS is delivered as a service in a complete solution comprising of drones, software and a cloud-based user interface. A Nokia AIMS drone can complete cycle counts approximately 7-10 times faster than human workers or around 300 inventory locations per hour. AIMS can provide customers with a 40% or greater ROI and deliver immediate value on the day it is launched.

Inventory counting capability is now available to customers in the United States. Existing Nokia AIMS customers will automatically gain access to this capability via a software update with no additional costs. New Nokia AIMS customers who sign up in 2024 will receive this capability for free, for one year.

Paul Heitlinger, General Manager, AIMS at Nokia, said: "Empowering warehouse operators with a competitive edge and keeping them at the forefront of automation is at the heart of what Nokia AIMS does. We are excited to launch an industry-first, true inventory counting capability for new and existing customers, wherever and whenever. With it, customers can not only gain peace of mind as our drones are designed to work while customers sleep but also free up human workers for high-value tasks that make a difference for their businesses."

Spun out from Nokia Bell Labs, Nokia AIMS reflects the deep heritage of utilizing emerging technology, such as AI and automation, to develop revolutionary technology advancements that are human by design and answer the industry's biggest demands.

Bounteous x Accolite and Nokia sign agreement to boost network API use-case development leveraging 5G capabilities

Press release

Bounteous x Accolite and Nokia sign agreement to boost network API use-case development leveraging 5G capabilities

  • Bounteous x Accolite, headquartered in the US with offices in Europe, North America, and Asia, will utilize Nokia's Network as Code platform with developer portal, starting with its European entity.
  • The two companies will initially focus on use cases in areas of health care, gaming, and utilities.

1 August 2024

Espoo, Finland – Bounteous x Accolite, a global digital transformation services consultancy, has signed an agreement to utilize Nokia's Network as Code platform with developer portal, with the aim of creating new use cases in areas like health care and gaming that harness 5G network capabilities.

The agreement further expands the API ecosystem that Nokia is building with operators, systems integrators, software developers, and hyperscalers around the world to tap network capabilities and monetize network assets through the creation of new use cases for consumer, enterprise, and industrial customers.

The Network as Code platform brings those parties together into a unified ecosystem, which simplifies network complexities by abstracting them and exposing developer-friendly interfaces. These interfaces enable developers to deploy applications seamlessly across multiple public and private networks.

Using the platform, Bounteous x Accolite developers will gain access to operator networks via Software Development Kits (SDK); network API documentation; a 'sandbox' to create software code for use case simulation and testing; and code 'snippets' that can be included in new applications. Those tools allow developers to leverage network capabilities, like quality of service (QoS) on demand, and create new use cases and value for their customers.

Bounteous x Accolite and Nokia are initially focusing on enabling health care applications that allow patients and hospitals, for example, to track ambulance location to accelerate response times in emergency situations. Bounteous x Accolite works across a range of industries, including telecommunications and media, health care, financial services, and media, to strengthen customer online experiences with greater product offerings and service delivery.

Since its launch almost one year ago, Nokia has signed collaboration agreements with 17 network operators and ecosystem partners in Europe, North and South America, and Asia to use the Network as Code platform.

Sanjeev Kumar, General Manager Telecom & Media, at Bounteous x Accolite said: "We are very pleased to start this journey with Nokia and to seize the growing opportunity of helping operators deliver greater value from their networks and Nokia's Network as Code platform. This agreement is a testament to Bounteous x Accolite's ongoing commitment to deliver the best digital experiences to customers through our engineering capabilities and partnership with innovative companies."

Shkumbin Hamiti, Head of Network Monetization Platform, Cloud and Network Services at Nokia said: "We are thrilled to bring Bounteous x Accolite into the growing ecosystem of partners utilizing network APIs. With its advanced technology solutions and developer capabilities, Bounteous x Accolite is well-placed to tap the valuable capabilities that 5G and 4G networks offer and create new forms of value for its customers."

Dirk Verhaegen, VP of Broadband Devices at Nokia, said: "Using Fixed Wireless Access to connect end customers to fast internet access requires more than just one type of device. Nokia's FastMile solutions provide operators with options, bringing fast, reliable broadband to people no matter where they live—whether it's in bustling cities, quiet suburbs, or even remote rural areas."

Jaimie Lenderman, Research Manager and Principal Analyst at Omdia, said: "The number of Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) subscribers in North America is projected to increase from 11.6 million in 2023 to 25 million by 2028. This growth is driven by the considerable advantages FWA offers in terms of cost-efficiency and rapid deployment, especially where wireline solutions are less feasible. However, challenges such as signal interference, limited range, and reliance on line-of-sight conditions still impact the widespread adoption of FWA by operators. Innovations like Nokia's FastMile gateway solution are mitigating these issues, enabling operators to deliver high-speed FWA broadband services to users regardless of their location."

The new Nokia 5G FWA receiver and gateway will be available in Q3 2024. Both join Nokia's comprehensive portfolio of customer premise equipment which includes 4G and 5G receivers and gateways for outdoor and indoor use.

Nokia launches Broadband Easy Connect to simplify fiber home connections

  • Nokia's new subscription-based service uses AI and cloud-based technologies to help operators automate and optimize the entire fiber connection process, from end-user requests to service activation.
  • Nokia Broadband Easy Connect helps operators cut repeat visits in half, speeding up fiber deployment by 20%.
  • The solution accelerates fiber home connections, boosting efficiency and success rates for operators.

24 July 2024

Espoo, Finland – Nokia today announced the launch of Broadband Easy Connect, a new subscription-based service that helps operators streamline, simplify and accelerate the process of connecting homes to fiber. The service allows operators to fully control and manage the home fiber connection process from the initial end-user request to the final service activation.

As fiber deployments increase globally, operators face challenges in cost-effectively connecting subscribers. Over 30% of home connections are not executed to plan due to manual procedures, inaccurate data, and tight schedules, leading to multiple truck rolls. A subscription to Nokia's Broadband Easy Connect gives operators, their subcontractors, and retailers access to a cloud-based platform that helps automate the process of connecting end users to the fiber network. With workflow tools that can be tailored to the operator's needs and seamlessly integrated into the IT environment, Broadband Easy Connect can automate the processes tied to scheduling customer visits, dispatching engineers, and verifying field operations. Nokia's solution also provides field engineers with access to a number of productivity tools such as ONT Easy Start and Optical Link Certifier, which provide automated service activation and end-to-end line testing. The cloud platform also allows field engineers to use AI computer vision models to validate port assignment and ensure all passive components are installed properly.

Based on Nokia's extensive experience in fiber deployments, which has helped operators connect over 300 million homes worldwide, the solution reduces the time spent on each home connection and ensures a consistent user experience.

Sandra Motley, President of Fixed Networks at Nokia, said: "With Broadband Easy Connect, we make it simple, fast and cost-effective for operators to set up home fiber installations. This means happier customers and a growing fiber business. Operators can get it right the first time 95% of the time and cut repeat visits in half, speeding up fiber deployment by 20%."

Piotr Wieczokiewicz, COO of Nexera, said: "Nokia has been a trusted service partner for many years, providing services and platforms that allow us to meet our challenging targets to build the fiber infrastructure and connect end-users first time right, in time and in budget."

Nokia nopeuttaa omien osakkeiden takaisinostoja

Nokia Oyj

Pörssitiedote

19.7.2024 klo 16:00 EEST

Nokia nopeuttaa omien osakkeiden takaisinostoja

Espoo – Nokia Oyj ("Nokia" tai "Yhtiö") on 18.3.2024 julkistanut omien osakkeiden takaisinosto-ohjelman ensimmäisen vaiheen aloittamisen ja 18.7.2024 ilmoitetun mukaisesti on tänään päättänyt nopeuttaa takaisinostojen toteuttamista korottamalla vuoden 2024 aikana tehtävien takaisinostojen määrää.

Takaisinosto-ohjelman käynnissä olevan vaiheen keskeinen sisältö kasvattamisen jälkeen:

  • Nokian osakkeiden hankintaan käytettävä kokonaissumma on enintään 600 miljoonaa euroa (korotus aikaisemmin ilmoitetusta 300 miljoonasta eurosta). Koska ohjelman puitteissa on vuoden 2024 aikana ostettu omia osakkeita noin 132 miljoonan euron arvosta, loppuvuoden aikana toteuttavien ostojen arvo on noin 468 miljoonaa euroa.
  • Korotetut takaisinostot alkavat aikaisintaan 22.7.2024 ja päättyvät viimeistään 31.12.2024.
  • Takaisinostojen tarkoituksena on optimoida Nokian pääomarakennetta alentamalla omaa pääomaa. Takaisinostetut osakkeet mitätöidään tämän mukaisesti. Takaisinostoihin käytetään yhtiön sijoitetun vapaan oman pääoman rahastoa ja takaisinostot vähentävät yhtiön vapaata omaa pääomaa.
  • Takaisinostot toteutetaan Nokian yhtiökokouksen 3.4.2024 hallitukselle antaman valtuutuksen mukaisesti. Nokian osakkeita voidaan ostaa enintään 400 miljoonaa kappaletta (korotus aikaisemmin ilmoitetusta 200 miljoonasta kappaleesta), mikä vastaa noin seitsemää prosenttia kaikista Nokian osakkeista.
  • Osakkeet hankitaan julkisessa kaupankäynnissä Nasdaq Helsingin säännellyllä markkinapaikalla sekä tietyissä monenkeskisissä kaupankäyntijärjestelmissä. Omia osakkeita ei hankita Yhdysvalloissa. Nokia on nimittänyt ulkopuolisen välittäjän osakkeiden takaisinosto-ohjelman järjestäjäksi.

Nokia accelerates its share buybacks

Espoo, Finland – Nokia Corporation ("Nokia" or the "Company") has on 18 March 2024 announced the first phase of its share buyback program and, in line with the announcement made on 18 July 2024, has today decided to accelerate its share buybacks by increasing the number of shares to be repurchased during the year 2024.

The main terms of the ongoing phase of the share buyback program post-increase:

  • The aggregate purchase price of all Nokia shares to be acquired shall not exceed EUR 600 million (an increase from the initially announced EUR 300 million). As repurchases for an aggregate purchase price of approximately EUR 132 million have already been executed in 2024, the aggregate purchase price for shares to be acquired during the remainder of the year is approximately EUR 468 million.
  • The post-increase repurchases will start at the earliest on 22 July 2024 and end by 31 December 2024.
  • The purpose of the repurchases is to optimize Nokia's capital structure through the reduction of capital. The repurchased shares will be cancelled accordingly. The repurchases will be funded using funds in the reserve for invested unrestricted equity and the repurchases will reduce total unrestricted equity.
  • The repurchases are based on the authorization granted by Nokia's Annual General Meeting on 3 April 2024. The maximum number of shares that can be repurchased under the program is 400 million shares (an increase from the initially announced 200 million shares) corresponding to approximately 7 % of the total number of shares in Nokia.
  • The shares will be acquired through public trading on the regulated market of Nasdaq Helsinki and select multilateral trading facilities. No repurchases will be made in the United States. Nokia has appointed a third-party broker as the lead-manager for the buyback program. The lead-manager will make trading decisions independently of and without influence from Nokia. The repurchases will be carried out in accordance with the so-called safe harbour rules referred to in Article 5 of the EU Market Abuse Regulation (EU N:o 596/2014).
  • The price payable per share shall be determined in public trading on the relevant trading venue at the time of the repurchase, in compliance with the price and volume limits applicable under the safe harbour rules.

Nokia may terminate the program prior to its scheduled end date and will in such case issue a stock exchange release to this effect.
