HERE wins top spot for mapping and traffic in Ovum Location Platform Index

Berlin, Germany - Market-leading research and consulting firm Ovum awarded HERE the top spot in mapping and traffic data in its most recent semi-annual Location Platform Index.

Ovum gave HERE an overall score of 8.02 and the clear number one spot in its 'completeness' index, which rates the overall capabilities of providers in the location-based services market.

The score reflected HERE's leadership position in mapping data, traffic and signage information, the feature set of its location platform, the ability for customers to access data across different devices, as well as its applicability across different industries.

"HERE's customer footprint spans the automotive, enterprise and consumer domains, giving it tremendous reach. That and its high score for completeness places HERE firmly in the Leaders category of Ovum's Location Platform Index," said Neha Dharia, Senior Analyst at Ovum.

HERE maps draw on 30 years of cartography experience and over 80,000 sources of data. HERE has maps in 196 countries, turn-by-turn navigation for 118 countries and transit maps and routing for public transit in over 970 cities worldwide.

Many of the world's leading automotive, enterprise and Internet companies trust HERE map data and platform services to run their businesses. For example, HERE is one of the few mapping companies that collects dedicated truck-specific road attributes for trucking companies.

In addition, HERE has made its HERE app available to consumers around the world. HERE launched the app in the Google Play store in December and in the Apple App Store in March, with more than 8 million downloads to date.

"Toivotamme LG Electronicsin tervetulleeksi lisensointiohjelmaamme", sanoi Nokia Technologies -liiketoiminnan johtaja Ramzi Haidamus. "Olemme tehneet hyvää yhteistyötä LG Electronicsin kanssa ja löytäneet molempien osapuolten kannalta hyvän ratkaisun, johon liittyy riippumattoman välimiesmenettelyn käyttö mahdollisten erimielisyyksien ratkaisemiseksi. Tämä sopimus luo puitteet yhtiöidemme väliselle yhteistyölle tulevaisuudessa".

Yksityiskohtaiset maksuvelvoitteet käsitellään välimiesmenettelyssä, jonka odotetaan päättyvän 1-2 vuoden kuluessa. Sopimuksen tarkemmat yksityiskohdat ovat luottamuksellisia.

  • Expands the reach of Nokia Networks' telco cloud portfolio, building the foundation for 5G deployments and providing unparalleled performance in the core and radio domains
  • Major innovation step aimed at unlocking the opportunities of the Programmable World

Espoo, Finland - 1 June 2015

In its 150th anniversary year, Nokia continues to innovate and reinvent itself by being the first vendor to effectively merge the IT and telco cloud domains with the launch of its AirFrame Data Center Solution. This is the first offering that combines the benefits of cloud computing technologies with the stringent requirements of the core and radio in the telco world. The Nokia AirFrame Data Center Solution is 5G-ready and supports the vision of a more flexible and distributed cloud architecture, which is the foundation to deliver the latency and data processing requirements of the future. The Nokia AirFrame Data Center Solution is available now.

First solution to efficiently serve both the IT and telco worlds

The first steps for the telco cloud were focused on taking core applications to a virtualized environment, offering immediate benefits of added scalability, flexibility and business agility. However, when implementing a comprehensive telco cloud architecture operators are faced with strict latency requirements and an extremely high demand for processing power. The new AirFrame Data Center Solution is the first to directly address these requirements and effectively merge the telco and IT domains in one single solution, utilizing high performance Intel® technology.

In developing AirFrame, Nokia Networks has invested in further advancing the data center hardware technology. Its innovations will deliver acceleration capabilities that will help operator customers be more efficient and differentiate themselves in the market. To continue advancing its solutions, Nokia Networks has opened a dedicated R&D facility for data center technology development. With this solid foundation, the Nokia AirFrame Data Center Solution brings what is needed to efficiently merge the IT and telco domains and pave the way towards 5G.

Nokia at 150: from pulp mill to the Programmable World

NOKIA

Nokia at 150: from pulp mill to the Programmable World

12 May, 2015

Espoo, Finland - Nokia today marked its 150th anniversary with employee celebrations around the world, the perfect way to reflect on the remarkable history of a company on the cusp of a major transformation aimed at unlocking the opportunities of the Programmable World.

From Espoo to Beijing, Bangalore to Buenos Aires, employees gathered to toast a company which began as a pulp mill in southwestern Finland in the 19
th century, rose to global prominence thanks to its prescience and prowess in mobility, and now has set its sights on the human possibilities of a connected world.

"Today is a moment for all Nokia employees, and indeed all people who have been touched by Nokia over the years, to celebrate a truly significant milestone in the company's history," Nokia President and CEO Rajeev Suri said.

"Our history is one of change: from paper to cables, rubber boots to TVs, and mobile phones to the Nokia of today. For 150 years we have embraced such change, emerging stronger as a result, and our recent Alcatel-Lucent announcement marks another such pivotal moment. We are moving forward with conviction, confidence and humility, fully focused on realizing the potential of an increasingly connected world," Suri said.

As a forerunner in the mobility industry, Nokia has already started the debate about what this connected world will mean with #maketechhuman, a conversation about technology, its role in society, and whether it truly serves humanity. The goal is to identify opportunities and challenges created by technology, and then shape the future in a positive direction through conversation, awareness, and content.

The Nokia of today is the result of two major transformations carried out in recent years: the purchase of Siemens' share of what was then Nokia Siemens Networks in 2013, followed by the sale in 2014 of substantially all of the Devices & Services business to Microsoft.

What has emerged is a strong, global technology company with three powerful businesses, each a leader in its respective field. Nokia Networks holds leading positions in most segments where it competes, including 4G; HERE is by far the strongest player in mapping services for the automotive industry; and Nokia Technologies continues to build and license one of the strongest and broadest patent portfolios in our industries.

All businesses are focused on a world where almost all people and billions of devices - 50 billion or more by 2025 - are connected; where software holds the connections together, where analytics bring meaning, and where automation brings simplicity and efficiency.

It is from this foundation of strength that Nokia announced the next step in its transformation on April 15, 2015: the combination with Alcatel-Lucent to create an innovation leader in next generation technology and services for an IP connected world. Planning for this transaction is already underway, and the company continues to expect it to close in the first half of 2016. The proposed transaction is subject to approval by Nokia's shareholders, completion of relevant works council consultations, receipt of regulatory approvals and other customary conditions.
