Press release

Nokia launches Autonomous Network Fabric to help customers accelerate network automation

  • Nokia Autonomous Network Fabric brings together all the capabilities required to accelerate the journey to full network automation in an open, cloud-native, multi-vendor environment.
  • Key features include a library of cross-domain correlated data products, telco-trained models (LLM/LAM/ML), integrated security, and AI apps for automation workflows.
  • Nokia announces an expanded collaboration with Google Cloud that will make Nokia's Autonomous Network Fabric available to deploy anywhere customers need it, on Google Cloud, on premises, and in hybrid cloud environments.

18 June 2025

Espoo, Finland – Nokia today announced its Autonomous Networks Fabric, the industry's first suite of telco-trained AI models, integrated security, and AI apps to accelerate network automation and enable operators to easily roll out new services. Autonomous Network Fabric is a unifying intelligence layer that weaves together observability, analytics, security, and automation across every network domain; allowing a network to behave as one adaptive system, regardless of vendor, architecture, or deployment model.

Additionally, Nokia is announcing an expanded collaboration with Google Cloud to enable customers to deploy Nokia's Autonomous Network Fabric as a SaaS application running on Google Cloud, on-premises with Google Distributed Cloud, and in hybrid cloud environments.

Over the past few years, operators have started to move toward fully autonomous networks. However, they are held back by legacy systems, siloed processes, and fragmented data. With Nokia's Autonomous Network Fabric, operators now have a fully integrated suite that features unified data management, 360-degree observability, and explainable AI. Nokia's Autonomous Network Fabric enables automation at scale, reducing the complexity of automation while allowing operators to improve reliability and operational cost savings by quickly testing new ideas and integrating those that deliver desired benefits.

"As networks become more autonomous, they will require different forms of AI—from classical algorithms to language-based systems and intelligent agents—to each contribute distinct capabilities for operators. Nokia's new tools can help operators to manage their infrastructure, services, and cyber risks by applying AI that is trained on industry-specific data and enriched with real-time situational awareness," said Andy Hicks, Senior Principal Analyst, GlobalData.

Nokia's Autonomous Networks Fabric will leverage Google Cloud's generative AI, including Google Cloud's Vertex AI and BigQuery, to deliver agentic-driven workflows for network operations. This includes real-time monitoring and visibility into network traffic patterns, improving subscriber experience, anomaly detection, zero-touch remediation of performance issues, and support for elastic scale-out and disaster recovery to the cloud.

Nokia and Google Cloud are making it easier for telecom companies to run Nokia's 5G core network on Google's cloud infrastructure. They are also joining forces with a major European operator to build a smarter, more automated network. By combining Nokia's telecom data and automation capabilities with Google's AI tools, they aim to create an environment where developers can innovate and rapidly scale network automation.

"In an era of increasingly complex and vulnerable networks, customers are eager for fully autonomous networks, which depend on good data. There is no good AI without good data. Nokia's Autonomous Network Fabric lays the foundation and applies our deep network expertise and agentic AI-optimized workflows together with Google Cloud to accelerate customer outcomes," said Kal De, SVP Product and Engineering, Cloud and Network Services, Nokia.

"This is another step in our deep partnership with Nokia to strengthen network reliability, proactively detect and resolve network issues, and turn data into value for predictable and high-performing networks. Nokia's Autonomous Network Fabric taps Nokia's deep telecom domain knowledge combined with Google Cloud's AI tools to provide operators with a comprehensive approach for accelerating network automation," said Muninder Singh Sambi, Vice President and General Manager, Networking and Security, Google Cloud.

With Nokia's Autonomous Network Fabric, customer will benefit from the following capabilities:

Unified Data Management: All relevant network data is collected, curated, correlated, and published as data products leveraging a data mesh architecture. Data is virtually federated with the ability to design and construct new data products rapidly in a low-code/no-code environment. Operators can use logic or AI/ML to create cutting-edge data assets that can be used and reused to power automation.

360-degree Observability: The Autonomous Network Fabric federates the use and distribution of data and AI across the organization, monitoring chain of custody from end to end. This ensures quality and consistency in automation.

Explainable AI: Powerful telco-trained LLMs support all automation through a rich knowledge engine that gives a clear reasoning for how data is interpreted, how issues are analyzed, and why certain actions are recommended.

Visit Nokia at Booth 306 at Digital Transformation World to find out more about the future of autonomous networks and see a live demo of Nokia AN Fabric in action.

Telstra and Nokia partner to unlock network APIs for developers and enterprises

Press release

Telstra and Nokia partner to unlock network APIs for developers and enterprises

  • Telstra's muru-D Labs, a hub for incubating ideas, products, and technologies, will make network APIs available in a lab environment on Nokia's Network as Code platform with developer portal.
  • The collaboration targets industry use cases for enterprises that leverage CAMARA and GSMA Open Gateway APIs.

17 June 2025

Espoo, Finland – Telstra, Australia's leading telecommunications company, and Nokia today announced a new collaboration that will give developers secure access to network APIs to help build smarter applications and integrate them into advanced new use cases for enterprises and industries.

Under the agreement, Telstra's muru-D Labs will provide access to a select mix of live and simulated network APIs on Nokia's Network as Code platform with developer portal, designed to make it easier for developers to build, test, and deploy new applications that securely tap into Telstra's advanced network capabilities.

The collaboration will focus on real-world use cases across industries, such as managing network traffic during large events, improving network observability, and prioritising critical services. The partnership will also explore Fixed Network use cases, having the developer platform consume API's from Nokia's service orchestration software already deployed in Telstra.

Kim Krogh Andersen, Group Executive Product & Technology at Telstra, said the new collaboration reflects the company's recently announced Connected Future 30 strategy and focus on delivering increasingly sophisticated and flexible connectivity capabilities to meet evolving customer needs. Core to this strategy is 'Network as a Product,' which aims to reinvent how Telstra creates and captures value from its networks by productising sophisticated network capabilities and opening up new business models.

"We're radically innovating at the core of our business and pushing the boundaries of our network leadership, so that our customers can get the connectivity they need in a changing environment. This new collaboration with Nokia is another way we are testing and learning how the power of the network can unlock new value in the tech ecosystem."

"By giving access to advanced capabilities through our network APIs, we're enabling developers to create smarter, more responsive applications for enterprises. This is about working with our partner ecosystem to demonstrate how developers can securely interact with Telstra's network and innovate at scale," Andersen said.

The initiative will include a local hackathon later this year, giving developers access to a selection of live network APIs and a sandbox environment to experiment with new ideas. This new collaboration builds on Telstra and Nokia's long-standing partnership and supports Telstra's Network as a Product vision of a software-defined, programmable network.

Nokia's network automation and Digital Operations solutions are laying the foundation for scalable API enablement by making it easier for partners, like Telstra, to offer developers on-demand access to programmable network capabilities with consistency and speed.

"Our collaboration will deepen Telstra's network integration into developer ecosystems and provide developers with greater choice, flexibility, and security in creating new applications," said Shkumbin Hamiti, Vice-President and Head of Nokia's Network Monetization Platform, Cloud and Network Services at Nokia. "As more developers explore network APIs, their feedback will shape the next generation of services, and we are excited to work alongside Telstra to drive this."

Nokia's network API strategy centers around connecting multiple API ecosystems through its Network as Code platform. It offers operators the broadest range of network enablement options with robust multi-tier API security and provides developers simplified access to network functionalities.

Nokia's ecosystem of Network as Code platform partners has grown to over 50 and includes operators from around the world, as well hyperscalers, Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS) platform providers, systems integrators, and vertical independent software vendors.

Espoo – Nokia ilmoitti tänään muutoksista johtoryhmänsä kokoonpanossa. Federico Guillén jää eläkkeelle tehtävistään Nokiassa vuoden lopussa ja jättää tehtävänsä Verkkoinfrastruktuuri-liiketoimintaryhmän johtajana ja Nokian johtoryhmän jäsenenä 30.6.2025.

Osana suunniteltua johtajavaihdosta Verkkoinfrastruktuurin strategia- ja kasvujohtaja sekä Infineran entinen toimitusjohtaja David Heard on nimitetty liiketoimintaryhmän johtajaksi ja Nokian johtoryhmän jäseneksi 1.7.2025 alkaen. Heard raportoi Nokian toimitusjohtaja Justin Hotardille ja hänen asemapaikkansa on Dallasissa, Yhdysvalloissa. Federico ja David työskentelevät tiiviisti yhdessä varmistaakseen saumattoman johtajavaihdoksen.

Heard siirtyi Nokian palvelukseen Infineran yritysoston myötä helmikuussa 2025.

Lisäksi Nokia on nimittänyt toimitusjohtajan kansliapäällikön Victoria Hanrahanin Nokian johtoryhmän jäseneksi 16.6.2025 alkaen. Hän tulee keskittymään roolissaan liiketoiminnan strategisten ja operatiivisten hankkeiden johtamiseen, kuten parantamaan toimintoja ja koordinointia läpi organisaation. Press Release

Nokia expands IP routing portfolio to utilities with new platforms to boost smart grid modernization

  • New routers offer built-in quantum-safe security, advanced synchronization, and automation capabilities—future-proofing mission critical networks.
  • Upgrades enable utilities to evolve their communications infrastructure for smart grid technologies.

12 June 2025

Espoo, Finland – Nokia today announced a significant expansion of its industry-leading IP routing portfolio geared towards mission critical networks including utilities that are transitioning to smart grid technologies. Nokia is expanding and enhancing its 7705 Service Aggregation Router (SAR) and Nokia 7250 Interconnect Router (IXR) platforms to address the escalating demand for secure, scalable, and high-performance networking infrastructure.

Utilities worldwide are rolling out smart grid technologies to tackle multiple urgent challenges at once. These systems are designed to make the grid more resilient in the face of climate disruptions and growing cyber threats. At the same time, they support the integration of distributed energy resources—like rooftop solar and battery storage—crucial for hitting net-zero emissions targets. Smart grids also improve operational efficiency and real-time monitoring through IEC 61850-enabled automation. Beyond technical gains, they help utilities stay compliant with fast-changing regulations and government mandates, ensuring the grid is ready for the future.

Nokia's expansion delivers end-to-end, secure, and adaptable IP routing solutions that scale from the enterprise edge to the data center core, helping utilities evolve their communications infrastructure for smart grid technologies. Nokia's 7705 SAR and 7250 IXR platforms provide advanced capabilities to deliver application-aware communications for TDM and IP/Ethernet services. Built to meet the needs of utilities, the Nokia platforms allow support for legacy protective relays, SCADA RTUs and IEC 61850 IEDs with precise frequency and time synchronization distribution across the grid. Utilities can also counter escalating cybersecurity threats, including those enabled by quantum computing, by deploying Nokia's advanced quantum-safe MACsec encryption. And because the pervasive use of substation CCTV cameras and sensors continue to drive up bandwidth use, the new Nokia platforms ensure their networks can scale to 100 GE and 400 GE to support these critical applications and future high-capacity services.

"Our energy customers are demanding networks that not only deliver bandwidth but also endure the harshest conditions, meet strict timing needs, and prepare them for quantum-era threats. With these latest additions, we're reinforcing our commitment to mission-critical connectivity, building on the proven versatility of our Nokia 7705 SAR and 7250 IXR platforms to give utilities unmatched flexibility, performance, and security," said Vach Kompella, Senior Vice President and General Manager, IP Networks, Nokia.
